Commissioned Painting: Pirate Captain, a process

At this past Comic Con I was commissioned to create a painting of a Pirate Captain. It was a long process but it all started with a rough sketch:

Based on notes from the client the sketch evolved again:

The client LOVED the changes so I proceeded with a color pass:

With the color palette established I began the painting process:

At this stage most of the broad strokes were there but she was still lacking a level of detailing. In the end it is definitely one of my personal favorite paintings I've ever done!

I think it turned out GREAT! What do you think?
